Ever wonder what exactly a cake ball is? Or why some people call them cake pops? Or how exactly these delicious treats are made? Wonder no longer - welcome to Cake Balls 101!
Cake balls started out as a way for home bakers to use cake scraps. As they took off in popularity, bakeries (like ours!) popped up and have taken cake balls to a whole different level of artistry! To make a cake ball:
-bake a cake
-crumble the cooled cake and mix with frosting
-roll the mixture into a ball
-dip it into chocolate
-and finally, decorate it once the chocolate has cooled!
If you prefer your cake balls on a stick, you can add a lollipop stick to the rolled cake ball before dipping it in chocolate to create a cake pop!
It's a lengthy process for sure, but the decadent cake ball that results is sure worth the effort! Nothing beats biting into a moist cake ball! If you are struggling to make these treats at home, try playing around with the ratio of cake to frosting. Or... if you'd rather just save the time, you know where you can find a delicious dozen of freshly hand-crafted cake balls! =)
